INTELSPACE Innovation Technologies S.A. and URENIO Research of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki have established a research group that collaborates on smart and intelligent cities, innovation systems, and innovation strategies. INTELSPACE was founded in 2005 by researchers from URENIO Research, as a spin-off company focusing on the design and development of intelligent/smart cities, intelligent districts, cyber-physical systems, and other types of intelligent spaces.

INTELSPACE offers engineering, IT, and consulting services in the field of intelligent / smart cities and systems of innovation. The company specializes in the design and development of physical spaces and digital environments sustaining innovation in cities, and addressing problems of growth and employment, vandalism and aggression, safety and security, air pollution, carbon neutrality and climate change, and participatory governance.

The company’s expertise lies in two interrelated areas: innovation systems and strategies, with a focus on DIP (digital-institutional-physical) systems of innovation, where software applications and datasets drive disruptive innovation, social innovation, awareness, and specialized services, including digital platforms that facilitate collaborative innovation by engaging complementors and users throughout the entire innovation cycle; and intelligent/smart cities, emphasizing the formation and evolution of smart city ecosystems, leveraging knowledge functions and architectures of connected intelligence, and involving the design and development of applications that enhance growth, safety, and sustainability.
